Alexa and Radio nan Gàidheal
We fin Alexa somewhat creepy but in any case, if you have one and want it to play RnanG, that’s not as simple as one might assume, because no matter how right or wrong you say “Raidio nan Gàidheal”, she doesn’t get it. It’s like that elevator sketch…
But someone let us know that the way to trick her into doing it is to say:
Alexa play 104.7 FM from TuneIn
and that apparently makes her play RnanG.
Play nan Gail on tune in seems to work, took me 20 minutes to get it to play tho.
I have found if you say it like “play Radio nan Gael” works with ours (I don’t like them either, but I must admit they’re handy)
Is this only able to be done in the UK? I am from New Zealand and I would LOVE to be able to hear this radio broadcast!
I’m not sure what the deal is with BBC stations from abroad. My experience with listening to international radio stations here is that unlike TV, it seems to be pretty accessible overall. There was some brouhaha over the BBC pulling its stations from TuneIn (which was the way the BBC channelled radio onto Alexa etc), some spat to do with user data. So it’s possible that you need to find a way of getting Alexa to play BBC stations via some other source.
I’ve done a quick search and it suggests that if you somehow install Radioplayer, you can get to BBC stations by saying “Alexa, ask Radioplayer to play Classic FM” (that was the example I found). It may be that there are alternatives to Radioplayer and that it may be country dependent, but I’d look into seeing what the default radio source you currently have is and how you can add alternatives that will get you BBC stations in NZ. Let us know if you figure a way?
